Average ransom value paid by companies rose almost five times

The average ransom paid by organizations that had data encrypted increased nearly fivefold last year to $812,360, according to research commissioned by Sophos from Vanson Bourne titled “State of Ransomware 2022.” The survey also found that two thirds (66%) of organizations in the world were hit by a ransomware attack in 2021, which represents an increase of 37% compared to 2020.
