The vast majority of people understand the importance of maintaining a good online image and making good use of Internet resources, however, few companies have usage policies for employees. Due to the lack of information for employees, the incorrect use of technology generates the vast majority of security problems and information leaks in companies.
To develop your internet usage policy, the company manager must be realistic and know that a good policy is specific, because it protects what is sensitive to your business and allows your employees to use the Internet to better perform their functions. See important points:
- Focus on your business: what is sensitive information, what really cannot be leaked
- Confidentiality: confidential information is not commented on, no one knows that it exists outside the specific environment
- Clearly define what is personal and what is professional. The limits apply to both working hours and the use of equipment. Explain what you can and cannot do about installing programs, using corporate email, accessing social networks and all important details for your business
- Create a booklet or internal document, disseminate it among all employees, clarify all points and seek everyone's opinion
- Talk to a lawyer before implementing a company's Internet use policy, often, what we imagine to be correct may be illegal or violate a worker's right.
