Cyber ​​Threats: why should companies worry?

With so many different cyber threats, it is nothing new that in recent years the number of virtual attacks against companies has increased, with the Ransomware attack, which took place on May 12, 2017 , being one of the biggest ever.

However, it is clear that most companies are not creating privacy policies, or increasing security when using the internet, in order to avoid this type of attack or invasion.

This is according to research carried out by the company Control Risks , a global consultancy specialized in political, security and integrity risk management.

The survey was carried out based on data from 482 business executives, and according to the research:

  • 77% of respondents believe that the company's board of directors primarily responsible for the organizations' cybersecurity management.
  • 46% of respondents believe that the top executives of their companies do not  give due importance to the topic “cybersecurity”.
  • 31% of organizations are very or extremely worried that they will suffer a cyberattack in the next year.

In order to understand how organizations relate to security and cyber threats, the research asked about the internal structure of companies and their conditions for resolving crises, threats and cyber crimes, see the data collected:

  • 45% say assessing and managing cyber risks are their biggest cybersecurity challenges.
  • 32% stated that the companies they work for did not carry out an assessment of the risks posed by cyber threats to their business in the last year
  • Around 28% of companies that suffered a cyber attack faced regulatory or police action and 26% lost customers.

The survey also shows that 35% of respondents admit that their company has already suffered from a cybersecurity breach.

Another fact that draws attention in the study is that 53% of organizations evaluate the cybersecurity measures of partners and providers only through contractual clauses.

The report highlights that cyber attacks increased by 11% in the last year in America, and Latin America, in particular, still appears as a critical target for cyber threats, according to the research. In Mexico alone, attacks increased by 30% .

To carry out the research, executives were interviewed in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa at the beginning of 2017 and gave rise to the Cyber ​​Security Landscape 2017 report.

Therefore, it can be seen that this topic should be addressed more in the day-to-day lives of companies in general, in search of finding strategies and solutions that can help increase companies' internet security, avoiding attacks that could bring enormous consequences. losses.
